MORE TREES FOR BATH AND NORTH SOMERSET

So what's this all about then?  Well ... I guess there's a clue in the title. We believe we need more trees. It really is that simple.  Why? Trees in urban areas bring many benefits, from a decrease in pollution to crime reduction, from building wildlife habitats to better road safety.  I don't know about you, but that sounds good to me.  We all want cleaner air and a nicer environment to live, work and play in - trees are part of the answer.

So how do we get more trees?  We need to influence, persuade and even cajole (in a gentle way!) people into planting trees in every possible conceivable nook and cranny in B&NES.  As long as it's the RIGHT TREE in the RIGHT PLACE.

Who can we influence?  This would include, but is not limited to: Homeowners; Supermarkets & Corporate Landowners; B&NES Council; Landowners & Farmers; Landscape Architects & Property Developers.

In practical terms, we help homeowners plant the right tree in the right part of their garden, with advice for ongoing care and attention (if required), and persuade organisations, councils and landowners to do the same on their patch.  Everyone will benefit.  Even people outside the region - after all, trees absorb carbon dioxide which is contributing to global warming.  What is it Friends of the Earth say? "Think global, act local."

Simple!

We are working together to increase the number of trees in the area.  Please join us so we can all stay in touch to achieve this aim.  There is no obligation to do anything, just joining us increases our numbers and adds weight to any campaigning that we do.  We are delighted that local MP, Don Foster has shown his support by joining our Facebook group, and if you are on Facebook, please join:

Alternatively, you can join our mailing list by emailing us at thegeesta@hotmail.com.

We are particularly interested in landowners and farmers who could make a significant impact by turning fields into woodland – a landowner in Carlingcott has already done this and it didn’t cost them a penny!  We can help you secure grants and also have willing volunteers waiting to pitch in with the planting!
